The Regional Electoral Court of Mato Grosso has prohibited the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages in public places and commercial establishments from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 25, the day of the second‑round election. The measure, signed by Judge Marcos Machado, aims to preserve order at polling stations and can be enforced with a direct judicial order.
The TRE‑MT announced the restriction on October 22, the day before the second‑round vote.
The court prohibited the sale and provision of alcoholic drinks in any commercial establishment and in public locations during the voting period.
The ban applies statewide from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 25.
Its purpose is to avoid confusion and keep the atmosphere calm at polling stations.
The restriction covers free distribution of alcohol in bars, restaurants and other venues as well as open public spaces.
It does not affect consumption inside private homes nor sales intended for consumption elsewhere.
The order was signed by the vice‑president and regional electoral corregidor, Judge Marcos Machado.
If a venue ignores the rule, Electoral Justice may issue a direct order to stop the activity.
The second‑round election will take place on October 25, when Mato Grosso voters will choose the president and vice‑president of the Republic.
